In the past 3 years I've travelled to over 30 countries, and one of my most memorable trips has been to Sayulita, Nayarit, Mexico! This is a chilled out beach and surf town on Mexico's pacific coast, that isn't too touristy and has a great mix of locals and travellers. I loved the beach, the town, the food, but mostly I loved Lush Hostel and the unique social atmosphere found there.
This is one of the rare party hostels that actually has really comfortable beds! There's also a dope rooftop bar that has an amazing view of the town, and serves up drinks for dirt cheap! The hostel is located within tons of amazing restaurants, street food (a.k.a. TACOS!!), and cafes. It's also only a 5 minute walk to the beach!
The rocky terrain is perfect for some cliff jumping. Head to Playa los Muertos!
This hostel has a really chilled out vibe during the day, that quickly ranks up to becoming a lit spot for a party after the sun sets and the surf bums flock back after hitting the waves! People here are very laid back, open minded, and keen on going surfing.
I'll tell you a story of what happened when I was at lush, to show you how great the social setting was! I was staying here during the full moon, and this one guy in the hostel convinced almost all of us (over 20 people) to get blankets and throw a party on the beach all night long. We hiked 30 minutes, found a secluded spot on the beach, made a fire, and had an amazing time seeing the full moon rise and set. It was one of the most memorable experiences of my travels, and I'm so glad it happened. Lush made it happen.
Some amazing friends I've made at Lush
I've also stayed at The Amazing Hostel Sayulita, and while it wasn't bad, it didn't quite have the charm and social atmosphere that Lush had. It's also located quite a bit further away from the town, and beach.
I am already counting the days until I lay on the hammock on the rooftop of this great hostel again, in between catching some waves and stuffing my face with tacos!
Next time you find yourself in Mexico, and especially if Puerto Vallarta is on your list, then come to Sayulita and live the chill life!
